_ HOT WHEELS _ playtime with Remy
CONTROLLED CHAOS

Once again a holiday provided an opportunity for some extended playtime with my grandson.
I expected the extra time to prove troublesome, but it went ok. The addition of several
new 3-D printed track accessories didn't make the track building any easier. So I decided
to "drag my feet" and see how much effort little Remy would put into building the track ...
the answer was zero. Though it was not totally unexpected. He did play quietly for some time
with the DIORAMA accessories while I organized the track components.
I would interject comments to include myself with the imaginative play and slowly began
the task of assembling the track. After an extended period Remy became bored even though I
nearly completed the track set up. He simply walked off and started terrorizing our cats
as he typically does. Then with the track assembly completed I arranged the cars neatly for a
trial run. I didn't engage any of the BOOSTERs or test the track. I wanted him to get the cars
running ... which he never did. Although shortly after dinner he returned to the DIORAMAs. Our
young male dinner guest joined us and we got the cars running. At this point little Remy began
chasing the cars around the track as he did the time before. Although not as crazily without the
extra stimulation of the car-controller.
As usual Remy tried running the cars the wrong direction through the BOOSTER only to have them
spit back and jam. Also, as usual, he set up car crashes that didn't really do anything
spectacular. I let the behavior go unchecked ... for the most part. And the playtime mostly
fizzled out right as he and his mother left for home. All together the playtime lasted from about
3pm to 7:30pm with a number of breaks to help with food prep and actual dinnertime. The bonus for
me came afterward since the track was still assembled ... typically I like to disassemble the
track with Remy's help to get him in the habit of caring for toys. However with the track still
intact I was able to develop a CODE to recreate the track assembly and test the whole fleet of
cars to evaluate the track performance.
Years from now Remy will be able to recreate this simple set-up and run the best cars given the
following CODE and back-up information:
** B - long HW - elev.90 - std.HW - elev.90 - short HW - dbl.F-trick*Lego - long xHW - (2) reg -
B - short HW - reg - HSC4 - (3) reg - B - (2) reg - HSC3 - (2) reg - HSC2 - (1) reg **
Use weights to stabilize elevated curves & high-speed curves
In time I am hoping this work will aide others in GUIDED PLAY with HOT WHEELs to help children
grow and mature. To build imagination, dexterity, and other useful traits. Also to help the
adults spend QUALITY TIME with the children ... See my new TIKTOK video
